Dear Hillary Clinton and Dick Cheney: feel free to do embarrassing things in public today. D.C.’s celebrity (and we use that term loosely) photogs are probably following around real celebs — well, at least Angelina Jolie. Yesterday the Examiner gave us the heads-up on a litany of famous-outside-the-Beltway folks traipsing around town this week. So if you’re a little tired of running into Nicolas Cage filming National Treasure 2, keep your eyes peeled for these visitors.
Angelina Jolie, who recently quashed hopes that she’d move to the District, met with State Department officials today in support of Global Action for Children, which aims to fight poverty and disease in developing countries. She and Brad Pitt recently donated $1 million to the group and called on the U.S. government to commit more money to helping orphans abroad, 20 million of whom have yet to be adopted by Jolie or Madonna.
Christina Ricci is also meeting with lawmakers tonight, in her case to mark Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The Opposite of Sex star is the national spokesperson for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
In his quest to create a bipartisan presidential ticket, Sam “Jack McCoy” Waterston talked to the Post and the National Press Club about his involvement in Unity ’08 and co-star Fred Thompson’s presidential aspirations. Though we love to roll our eyes at Hollywood-types getting involved in politics, Waterston’s position as the definitive Abe Lincoln, in our eyes, gives him the street cred to hang with the professional pols.
On a refreshing note, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, is in town for an entirely policy-free event. Jane Seymour is exhibiting 76 of her own painting at P & C Art Galleries in Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria. Among the pictures of pretty, pretty flowers, the actor’s collection includes a self portrait in character (above). Make a note to add this show to your already packed arts calender.
