The weekend’s almost here — with all its school painting, free comic books and tequila toasting — and frankly, it’s hard to spy sunshine through the window and imagine spending the day inside. Commuters who use MARC’s Camden Line (Baltimore-D.C.) have the perfect excuse for blowing off work. For the second day in a row trains are running at least 40 minutes late due to signal problems. It sounds like a major hassle, so if you absolutely must head to the office, allow plenty of time for delays.
Fire Response Typical of Fenty’s Style?: This morning’s Post has an analysis of Mayor Fenty’s response to the fire that gutted Eastern Market. While many D.C. residents were relieved to hear Fenty’s Tuesday promise to rebuild the market, he made the proclamation without having any idea of the project’s true cost and didn’t speak with Distict CFO Natwar M. Gandhi about where such funds will come from. He also left Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, who toured the market yesterday, off the invite list for a meeting about rebuilding both the Capitol Hill landmark and the Georgetown Library. The paper sees Fenty’s rapid response as politically motivated, examples of his bold leadership style and willingness to “step on toes”. Do you share that view? Is the mayor seizing issues for political gain without proper vetting, or is he simply taking on the big problems that Washingtonians want addressed?
Briefly Noted: Police chase of stolen car ends with accident in Grant Circle… D.C. soldier convicted in court-martial… Queen visits Virginia, doesn’t retake colonies…
This Day in DCist: In 2005 we searched for the perfect margarita recipe. Last year wondered about Marion Barry’s family values.
