It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since congressional intern Chandra Levy disappeared. This week marks five years since her body was finally discovered in Rock Creek Park, almost 13 months after she vanished without a trace. No one has ever been charged with her murder.
Today Susan Levy, Chandra’s mother, is in town to meet with MPD Chief Cathy Lanier to urge her to continue investigating Chandra’s death.
Levy’s case generated national headlines because of her relationship with former Rep. Gary Condit (D-Calif.) Condit denied any involvement with Levy’s disappearance, but his political career was effectively destroyed by the controversy and he was defeated in a Democratic primary the following year. Susan Levy recently told ABC News she believes Condit is still relevant to the case, and thinks her daughter knew her own murderer.
Lanier will have a private meeting with the Levys in which she has said she’ll try to make the family comfortable with the information the MPD has collected during the long investigation into the case. The Levy family has a Web site up called WhoKilledChandra.com designed to collect anonymous tips that could lead to a suspect.
