Just two days and counting until Unbuckled 6 is officially upon us, D.C. To whet your appetites a bit, we’ve asked both bands to answer a few hard-hitting questions leading up to their performance at DC9 this Wednesday. Today we bring you wisdom from The XYZ Affair’s Alex Feder, and the band’s latest music video — which is completely and totally awesome, if the words “physical challenge,” Pete, Ferguson or Budnick mean anything to you. The band will play with D.C.’s own Le Loup at Unbuckled on Wednesday, July 11 at DC9.

You’ve played D.C. a few times before. What do you like about playing in our fair city?

I’m originally from Maryland right outside D.C. My parents still live there, so do a lot of my high school friends and family, so it’s always a good time coming back and playing for everybody I grew up with. Last time we played was unfortunately a total disaster. We unwittingly showed up 3 hours after we were supposed to have sound checked, played for a tiny (but loving) crowd, and had to run both guitars through one guitar amp after mine blew up. The previous time we were in DC 3/4 of us had the flu. And the time before that we were in two cars and actually got into a car accident with each other. That was pretty awesome. Wait, do we even like playing in DC??

In the highly likely event that someone in the crowd swoons over someone in your band, how should they go about winning your affections?

Based on past precedent, all you need in order to hook up with a member of The XYZ Affair is to have one single dollar. When we were in Michigan, this pleasantly plump girl came up to Chris (our bass player) and said, “Hey that was a great show.” The ever affable Chris responded, “Thanks for staying! We had a sweet time.” Then this girl proceeded to put a dollar in her mouth and exclaim, “Wanna make it sweeter?” Chris, having never made contact with a female before, JUMPED at the opportunity and eagerly retrieved the dollar with his mouth. I am not making any of this up. So basically, make sure to bring your $1s, ladies!

What can the crowd look forward to from you guys on Wednesday?

Rock music. And poor stage banter. And a lot of sweat.
