>> The Hall Monitors heated up the DCist servers with their Three Stars appearance a few months back, and tonight they’ll be warming up the stage for Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray’s Heavy Trash and Denmark’s pshychobilly trio Powersolo at the Rock and Roll Hotel. $14, doors at 8 p.m. for an 8:30 show.

>> Winner of the Best European Film at the Venice Film Festival, DarkBlueAlmostBlack is Spanish director Daniel Sanchez Arevalo affecting film that follows Jorge, a young man who finds his life on hold after his father has a stroke. Seven years of janitorial work and night school later, he manages to complete a business degree but still can’t find work, at which time his brother, fresh out of prison and armed with an indecent proposal, happens upon the scene. A somewhat bizarre plot construction doesn’t get in the way of frequently very funny dialog and an underlying sweet story about seizing the day. Part of the XVIII Latin American Film Festival at the AFI SIlver Theater. 7 p.m.

>> Talk about odd couples: Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, will be discussing his latest book The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World, alongside No Logo author Naomi Klein, who also has a new book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, at Politics and Prose tonight. Think they’ll go for a drink after? 7 p.m.
