FRIDAY:
>> It’s raining, and you’ve got some serious partying to do tomorrow night, so we’d recommend taking in a movie and saving your strength. Don’t miss our movie picks for the weekend here, including special Halloween screenings of Nosferatu at the AFI Silver Theater. Also of note tonight, The American City Diner screens Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho at 8:30 p.m.
>> If you’re more in the mood for getting your eardrums absolutely destroyed, Japanese metal trio Boris will gladly oblige as they come to D.C. touring off of their 2006 album, Pink. $12 at Black Cat.
SATURDAY:
>> A few years ago there was some big talk about planning a D.C. zombie flash mob, hilariously titled the Million Man Lurch, but the two men behind it were apparently too lame to actually pull it off. So thank goodness someone else with a little more follow through has taken up the cause of running a quality D.C. Zombie Lurch for tonight at 6 p.m. Make sure to get to the Washington Monument on time for an attempt to break the world record for the most people dressed as zombies dancing simultaneously to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
>> You can’t go wrong with heading to the Warehouse for Lobster Boy‘s Halloween Spooktacular, which also happens to be the burlesque review’s final show. Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey perform with Dr. Lucky from NYC. Tickets are $20, or $15 if you wear a costume, and the two sets, which promise to be extra raunchy, start at 7 and 10 p.m.
>> Our pal DJ Will Eastman is doing up a big Halloween version of Bliss at the Black Cat’s backstage, which is a great option if your costume lends itself well to dancing. At only $6, this is the best Halloween deal you’ll find anywhere, and Will always plays music people want to hear. Party starts at 9 p.m.
Obviously there are a ton of other Halloween events going on this night, so if you have one to recommend, add ’em in the comments.
SUNDAY:
>> We can honestly say we’ve never heard of a band from the Isle of Man. But the early 20-something Manxmen in Back Door Slam play blues that got good notices at SXSW earlier this year (one reviewer said he saw the spirit of Jimi Hendrix) and they’ve been touring continuously since. Blues aficionados should visit DC9 on Sunday to see what the fuss is about. $10, 9 p.m., with the rootsy By and By.
>> The XYZ Affair won us over with their baby faces and heart-melting harmonies at our last Unbuckled. They’re back in town this Sunday night at the Black Cat to do it again. With Small Sins, on the back stage. $10, 9 p.m.
>> Don’t miss our full preview of experimental jazz acts Jason Moran and The Bad Plus, playing together at the Lisner Auditorium at GW. Tickets to the 7 p.m. show are available here. $25-$45 with a limited number of student tickets available at the door.
