>> It’s Halloween! Spooky, Scary! Despite the taxi strike, SoberRide is still offering free taxi rides for people who have had too much to drink celebrating the holiday: If you need a ride home between 8 p.m. tonight and 4 a.m. tomorrow morning, call 1-800-200-TAXI and you should be able to get a free ride home of up to $50. How long you’ll have to wait for that ride is an open question, but please, do not use the taxi strike as an excuse to drive drunk. Remember that SoberRide requires you call from a cell phone with a D.C., Maryland or Virginia area code, and you can’t reserve one in advance — just call when you need one.

>> Those of you looking to dress up and dance one last time would do well at the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight, with a themed costume party around The Warriors, DJ sets by The Bravery and a live performance by Be Your Own Pet. $12 with a costume, $15 without and two special deals — all paid attendees will receive a Rock and Roll Hotel ticket for free admission to any future show, and free shuttles will run from Union Station to the Hotel. Call Clem at 301-751-1802 for Halloween shuttle service from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

>> The special Halloween reading of local pop culture critic (and sometime DCist movie reviewer) Eric Nuzum’s book, The Dead Travel Fast: Stalking Vampires from Nosferatu to Count Chocula at Politics and Prose should be a fun way to kick off the night — costumes are encouraged. 7 p.m.

>> If you’re planning on staying in to greet trick or treaters tonight, Frozen Tropics has a helpful guide of what to expect. We generally see kids trick or treating in most of the city between dusk (around 5:30 or 6) up to around 8:30 or 9 p.m.
