More details on last night’s fatal shootings came out this afternoon. The first, which happened at about 10:30 p.m. at 9th Street and Barry Place NW, right next to the Howard University campus, appears to have been an attempted carjacking gone wrong. The victim was 47-year-old Barbara Carl, who was riding in the passenger seat of her fiance’s BMW when a group of six men approached the car. When Carl’s fiance tried to drive away, one of the men opened fire on the car, and Carl was fatally wounded.

The second shooting happened just after midnight in the 1500 block of F Street NE. in Police found 19-year-old Robert Mallory lying in the middle of the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Several police officers were within a block of where the shooting occurred, but did not hear the gunshots.
