America’s Next Top Model just might be a transgender woman. Us Magazine reports that Isis, a former receptionist originally from Prince George’s County, Md., will compete in the upcoming season of Top Model, which premieres September 3 on the CW Network.
Isis told the magazine, “My cards were dealt differently,” regarding her identity as a transgender woman. When pressed if she’ll be a role model, she said, “I like to help people, but I’m here to follow my dreams.”
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation praised the show and its parent network for including Isis in the competition.
Isis isn’t the first local LGBT person to participate in a competitive reality show this year. In June, the D.C. Cowboys appeared in an audition episode of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” The dance troupe was sent on to Las Vegas for callbacks and then passed on through to the Top 40. “America’s Got Talent” is on a short hiatus due to the Olympics.
