Money, money, money, money…mon-ey.

A happy Saturday morn’ to you, Washington. You’ll have to excuse us this morning for indulging in a little bit of The O’Jays iconic ode to currency. But it’s not without cause: a bunch of this morning’s news seems to revolve around cold hard cash.

For instance, the tenuous contract negotiations for D.C. teachers. Michelle Rhee’s tenure-for-higher pay plan (which we wrote about back in August) looks like it won’t be settled anytime soon, as the Washington Teachers’ Union has now officially enlisted the help of the American Federation of Teachers. Rhee’s plan – which would boost teachers’ salaries potentially into the six figures in exchange for a student performance-based assessment of their work – is now further complicated by her complicated history with AFT head Randi Weingarten.

As we all know, crime doesn’t pay. An Examiner article warned yesterday about the alarming frequency and new found brazenness of bank robberies in the area. So, almost on cue, the Post pens a story about a robber who, after holding up an M&T Bank in Forestville, hopped in his getaway truck. The truck’s stickman was pulled over twenty minutes later, but the robber – his stash already ruined by dye – managed to take the wheel of the car and drive off. Luckily for the police, he was apprehended a few minutes later after crashing.

But hey, it’s not all bad: for those of you who live and work in Montgomery County, ambulance use is temporarily on the house. Cha-ching!
