Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the 600 block of Kenyon Street NW. Inspector Edward Delgado sent out this message to the Third District Police email list:
The Third District is investigating a shooting that happened inside a residence in the of the 600 block of Kenyon Street, N.W. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. The male victim who was shot was taken to a Local hospital where he past [sic] away from his injuries. Assistant Chief Diane Groomes also noted that a child was inside the home where the man was shot. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
UPDATE: WJLA says the child was shot in the chest and was in surgery at Children’s Hospital. The child is expected to survive. There’s also a vehicle being sought in connection to the crime: a burgundy or red minivan that may have Georgia plates.
UPDATE II: Ward 1 Council member Jim Graham writes in an email:
Somehow or another, it appears that the shooter got into the house…was he invited? was he waiting and barged in? all of that is unclear. Police consider it another targeted shooting.
It may be reasonable to assume that the shooter in this brazen crime can be identified by the various people who were present as witnesses.
