UPDATE: WTOP is now reporting that the man died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Witnesses at the station are saying he intentionally jumped in front of the train.

Metro is reporting that a man was hit by a Red line train this morning at the Shady Grove station.

The train, headed in the direction of Glenmont, struck the man at around 9:50 a.m. The man was reportedly still alive when rescue crews pulled him from underneath the train and transported him to a local hospital.

Expect Red line delays for the next several hours as officials investigate the accident.
The Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook Metro stations are all offering only limited service. A train acting as a shuttle is going back and forth on one track between the stations. Buses also are transporting passengers to the three most affected stations.
