Multiple anonymous tipsters pointed us to what could be yet another shooting incident around 8 p.m. last night near 15th and Fuller Streets NW in Columbia Heights. One notes that there were “cops, EMS, [and] firetrucks up and down” the intersection, and that they were ‘[h]oping no one is dead.” There’s no word yet on if anyone was killed (or even struck) in any shooting — but we’ll keep you updated if and when word does come through.
Sadly, this is yet another gun incident for a neighborhood which has been burdened with them way too frequently in recent weeks. Only thirteen days ago, a group of individuals began “indiscriminate shooting,” firing upon a group of teens near the Columbia Heights Rec Center at 14th and Girard Streets, killing one and injuring another.
UPDATE: Commenter Boomdog leads us to SpotCrime’s report of the incident, which indeed confirms that at 7:57 p.m. yesterday, two men were shot at 1456 Fuller St NW. The men, both struck in the abdomen, were in critical condition at the scene.
UPDATE 2: Councilman Jim Graham chimed in with more detail on the Columbia Heights listserv late last night — luckily, no one was killed:
Apparently the shooters knocked on the door at a house on Fuller that sells products from El Salvador. Something happened and two people were shot, one in eth [sic] leg and one in the side. They then left in Honda truck…Both victims are in stable condition at Medstar.
Graham also noted that the shooting did not appear to be related to the many recent gang shootings in the area, but the motives of the perpatrators remain unknown.
