A man who is believed to be a Metro employee was struck by a train at about 10:40 a.m this morning on the tracks between the Braddock Road and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport stations. The employee, whose identity Metro has not yet released, was taken to a local hospital and is in unknown condition at this time. and is believed to be in serious condition.
Metro spokesperson Cathy Asato warned customers on the Blue and Yellow Lines to expect major delays in both directions for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon due to the incident. Metro says all Metrorail stations remain open at this time, but the Blue Line is currently split into two segments. Blue Line trains are operating between Franconia-Springfield and Braddock Road and then between Largo and National Airport.
The Yellow Line is also split into two segments. Yellow Line trains are operating between Huntington and King Street and between Fort Totten and National Airport.
Free shuttle buses will be carrying passengers between King Street, Braddock Road and National Airport to get customers around the area of the incident.
