Photo by yonas1Got nothin’ to do tomorrow afternoon? Stop by Mayor Adrian Fenty’s birthday bash/campaign fundraiser for what’s sure to be — if recent polls are any indication — a somewhat more sober affair than originally planned.
Fenty, who’s turning 39, will continue his annual tradition of throwing a big bash for himself this year by taking over a spacious Ward 3 mansion located on a plot of land that was once supposed to be the site of the District’s mayoral mansion. Back in the era of Mayor Anthony Williams, local philanthropist Betty Brown Casey bought the plot of land along Foxhall Road as a site to be donated to the construction of a home worthy of the city’s mayor. After years of squabbles with neighbors, the project was abandoned.
It’s an open invite — yes, even certain overexposed Virginia socialites can drop in — though you’ll be expected to donate to Fenty’s re-election campaign. Suggested donations start at $51, and will go to fill Fenty’s campaign coffer, which already has nearly $3 million in it. Given his high disapproval ratings of late, Fenty just might need every cent of that to turn public opinion back in his favor.
Attendees are asked to RSVP to rsvp@fentyreelect.com.
