The D.C. Council plans to take a second vote on same-sex marriage on Tuesday.

In preparation for the vote, the Campaign for All D.C. Families and D.C. Clergy United are hosting a rally tonight at 7 p.m. at the Kennedy Recreation Center (1401 Seventh St. NW). And in anticipation of the bill’s passage, the D.C. Council and Human Rights Campaign have scheduled a victory party Tuesday evening at the Long View Gallery (1302 Ninth St. NW).

Once the bill gets its second endorsement from the council, it will go to Mayor Adrian Fenty’s desk for his signature. After that, it heads to Congress for a required 30-day review period. Though opponents of same-sex marriage have long warned of an offensive on the Hill, recent success in lifting longstanding prohibitions on medical marijuana, needle-exchange programs and local funding for abortion indicate that congressional conservatives don’t currently have many options to get in the District’s way.
