Upon responding to a 911 call, two veteran MPD officers shot and killed a 32-year-old man on Kenyon Street NW yesterday afternoon, reportedly after the man twice attacked them with a knife. Tremaine Flythe was pronounced dead at 4:33 p.m. yesterday; Flythe had been under investigation for an unrelated offense. According to MPD, the two officers who fired their weapons are currently on administrative leave with pay, as per policy. An investigation into the shooting is underway. “It looks like the officers did what they had to do to save their lives,” said Chief Cathy Lanier.
