Metro says it discovered a cracked rail outside the Forest Glen station earlier today. The rail in question is on the Shady Grove-bound side, and delays resulted in both directions on the Red Line as trains were forced to single-track around the problem area for a couple of hours. Since then, however, crews have installed a brace on the cracked rail as a temporary fix, and Metro says riders should expect only minor delays during rush hour, as trains will need to travel at 15 mph in the spot where the fix was made. The repair crew will return later in the evening to permanently repair the crack. Service is expected to be back to normal on Thursday morning.
