UPDATE: A reader sends in this photo showing the main break, which does indeed look massive. The tipster adds that water was “a foot deep, and fast in many places.”

We’ve also added a small reader video of some cars making it through the flooded street without too much trouble. It’s posted at the bottom of this story.

DDOT and D.C. Fire/EMS are both reporting a large, 20″ water main break in the vicinity of 17th and P streets NW. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area, as street closures due to water and ice conditions are expected while crews work to fix the problem. We’re hearing about visible flooding on 17th Street right now. Stay tuned for updates as we get more.
