DCist heard from frustrated D2 Metrobus riders over the weekend, via both Twitter and email, who complained they hadn’t been made aware that the route was still not really running normally since last week’s double-blizzard. The last WMATA had announced, the D1 was one of the remaining bus routes still not up and running, but they didn’t say anything about the D2. So what gives?
WMATA’s bus service press releases haven’t been as thorough as they could have been, it seems. Instead of relying on them, spokesperson Ron Holzer suggests that the best place for customers to check Metrobus status is the lower left corner of the transit agency’s web site (today’s messages pictured right). If you look there for current bus service status messages, you’ll clearly see that service changes to the D1 bus lines are also applicable to the D2.
Holzer also urged bus and rail riders not just to complain to blogs and news outlets about problems they encounter with the transit service. That’s obviously not really in DCist’s interest (keep those tips rolling in to tips@dcist.com!), but as a friendly public service, here’s what Ron says you should do when you have a question like this one:
“Anytime you have a complaint about your Metro experience, please let us know about it directly. That way we can document it, investigate the complaint and come to a resolution,” Holzer said. WMATA accepts complaints online, by telephone and regular mail.
As for the D1 and D2, those routes continue to turn back at 35th and Whitehaven Pkwy NW until further notice. Other current detours are listed here, but again, like Holzer said, you should check the bus service status at wmata.com for the most up to date information.
