Tally up another one for those who argue we definitely ought to be hunting and sterilizing our local deer population. WTOP reports on how one of its own, staffer Pat Puglisi, had two rampaging deer storm through his home in Damascus, Md. on Sunday.
“Debris was flying, chairs were coming apart, pots and pans were crashing. It was clear that these two deer had hit my front door like a SWAT team.”
Scrambling to make sense of the situation, Puglisi was finally able to usher one deer out another door. The other deer stuck in the glass of the front door was seriously hurt and eventually put down by police.
The accompanying photo shows a terrible mess that will surely take time and money to remedy. The story also quotes Maryland Department of Natural Resources figures that there are approximately 80 to 100 deer per square mile in many parts of the greater metro area, which is roughly four times the number they’d ideally like to see.
