Cherry blossoms bring to mind the wonders of life that spring reveals. For trees, it’s a fairly easy process, as I understand it. Bees show up at one flower and pick up pollen, then travel to another flower and deposit pollen. (Then they take yet still other pollen home and make honey, and if I eat enough of the stuff just maybe these damned pollen allergies will leave me in peace.)

For birds, it’s altogether more complicated: Two birds have a fling, mama bird gets stuck regurgitating worms down ungrateful hatchlings’ throats, and papa bird heads back to town, singing his old song with his chest puffed up and plume done right. This week’s overheard goes out to all the mama birds.

Overheard of the Week:

Somewhere in D.C.:

“All of the guys who got me pregnant were sweet and everything when I was pregnant. Once they got a baby out of me, they started cheatin’ an’ stuff.”

After the break: murder season and hott deaf dudes. Also, were you aware that tourists like to visit the District in the spring?

Everyone’s going to be out and about this weekend, so keep your ears open and send what you hear to overheardindc(at)gmail(dot)com.
