Capital One purchased D.C. area-based Chevy Chase Bank back at the beginning of 2009, and now the Post reports that the transition to the Capital One brand will be completed sometime this fall. Capital One Bank signs with temporary Chevy Chase Bank covers will soon be installed at all 247 branches, with the Chevy Chase covers to be removed on some yet to be announced date later this year.
The re-branding move will mark the end of what had been the largest area bank to identify as being a local business. Advertising mascot Ben Franklin and tagline “The Leading Local Bank” will presumably be axed in the transition, to be replaced with something more in line with the Capital One name. Could we be treated to Viking warriors marching up Connecticut Ave. in the near future? Only time will tell.
