The Batala Percussion Band started the parade with a bang.

Everyone loves a parade, and on Saturday, the Washington Project for the Arts held their first WPArade, where artists and arts organizations showcased moving art, floats, portable sculpture and street performance along Half Street SE.

The Batala Percussion Band started the parade off right, putting the meager crowd in the right frame of mind for some performance art. Some fun sculptures graced the parade, including a large rhinoceros art bike made from recycled materials. Artomatic brought a literal representation of what Artomatic does best, putting art in empty buildings. The sculpture/float was accompanied by a zooming art bike and pulled by mildly costumed characters.
