M Street SE between 1st Street and 3rd Street is currently closed to traffic, as authorities assess the scene of an accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a large dump truck. Around 1 p.m, the truck collided with a woman, who suffered “very extensive,” life-threatening injuries. WTOP’s Neal Augenstein is reporting from the scene and notes that the driver of the truck continued driving until someone alerted him that he had hit someone — at which point, he returned to the scene and cooperated with the police investigation. Charges against the driver are pending.
