UPDATE: It appears as if the D.C. Fire and EMS tweet regarding water main breaks at 6th and G Streets NE was inaccurate. D.C. Water has informed us that there was no main break at the location. Rather, the issue was a clogged catch basin, which has been cleared.
There are quite a few issues to update you on this morning as a result of the inclement weather, a clogged catch basin and a suspicious package.
First, the weather: several motorists at two separate locations along Rhode Island Avenue NE are stuck inside high standing water. Rescue operations along both the 1000 and 600 blocks of Rhode Island Avenue are currently underway. Checking in with Metro, the Cleveland Park station has been temporarily closed, due to a suspicious package. Shuttle bus service has been requested; trains are still running through the station at this time. [Well, that was quick: Cleveland Park has now reopened.] Finally, multiple water main breaks a clogged catch basin at the intersection of 6th and G Streets NE was pumping more water into an already wet scene — D.C. Fire and EMS are currently on the scene and are recommending that cars avoid the area.
If you have to drive somewhere today, please don’t do it through standing water. Also, considering the rain is scheduled to continue throughout the evening, now might be a good time to reacquaint yourself with these important phone numbers.
