And a Mercedes.

The City Paper’s Michael J. West reports that Butch Warren, the well-respected but erratic bassist who since 2007 has held the Wednesday night spot in Adams Morgan’s Columbia Station has been fired from his gig. In the 60s, Warren served as house bass player for Blue Note Records, the most celebrated label in jazz. He has long suffered from psychological problems that have been exacerbated by bouts with substance abuse, which in turn led to periods of homelessness. His return to regular performances was welcome by area jazz fans, although seeing the Butch Warren Experience could be a very unpredictable, well, experience. Warren often displayed odd behavior, and his playing could range from amateur-ish to pure genius. West notes that the band still has other gigs, and in the mean time we can only send our best wishes to this pillar of the District’s jazz community.
