Pandas: objects of love and hate, nicknames and loss. The Chinese took back our Butterstick, then insulted our panda keeping — and, by extension, us. But maybe this proto-Tea Party kid’s got the right idea: love it or leave it.

Overheard of the Week

Outside the panda exhibit, in the middle of a big crowd:

A little kid, about 5 or 6 years old, to his dad: “The pandas have been here long enough, they should speak English by now!”
