After a brief hubbub last week over the use of D.C. public schools for some of Vince Gray’s ongoing town halls, the presumptive Mayor-elect’s campaign has released the revised locations for the six remaining events. (Ward 5 and Ward 3‘s town halls took place last week.)
With the new locations announced — we’ve updated our handy map, along with all the media coverage and videos — it dawns on us that all but one of the town halls are being held at churches or charter schools. (Ward 6’s town hall will take place at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street NE.) Should we read anything into the choice of venues?
We put the question to Gray spokesperson Traci Hughes who said no, we shouldn’t read anything into the locales. The campaign, Hughes pointed out, “worked with Councilmembers from each ward to choose sites most convenient for their constituents.”
Tonight, Gray will head to Ward 7 for a homecoming of sorts, with the town hall set for the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. We’ll be on hand to report on the event; if anyone else heads out there, use the hashtag #ward7 or email me your thoughts at martin (at) dcist (dot) com.
