Rejoice D.C. drivers, for you have almost reached your annual winter reprieve from having to move your car for the city’s mechanized street sweepers. (And you’ve even been informed in advance this year!) After last year’s miscommunication regarding the date residential sweeping ended, DPW was really on the ball this year, announcing that weekly street sweeping on residential streets will cease for the season on October 29. That’s earlier than usual, to boot. Street sweeping on major arterial routes like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Constitution and Independence Avenues will continue throughout the winter, as weather permits. DPW now moves on to focus on leaf collection efforts, which begin on November 8. We should also remind everyone that if you get a ticket for parking in a sweeping zone during the winter break (not unheard of), you should call DPW at (202) 673-6833.
