UPDATE (7:20 p.m.): “Everyone here is saddened about this,” Wemple told DCist via email this evening. “Jim is not only the ultimate web guy but the ultimate colleague. So that’s pretty much where we are right now. … Exactly how we’re going to do the work that Jim has done is something we’re going to have to sort out as time goes on. We’ll miss him.”
And his thoughts about the future direction of TBD under his leadership?
“It’s clear to me, though, that the ownership here will continue to invest in TBD.com and I think that you’ll see lots of energy and news from us in the future,” Wemple wrote.
ORIGINAL POST: Fishbowl DC got the scoop this afternoon that Jim Brady, the former Washington Post editor who was tasked with launching TBD, will be stepping down as General Manager of the media organization. Brady later confirmed the news via his Twitter account. Former Washington City Paper editor Erik Wemple will reportedly be taking Brady’s place and there will not be a major shakeup with the rest of the website/cable station’s leadership. Brady’s departure, according to the Fishbowl report, is not due to poor performance, but rather a rift between Brady and TBD publisher Robert Allbritton over the future direction of the organization. We have reached out for comment from Wemple on his promotion, but have yet to hear back. (We’d really like to know whether the promotion will affect Wemple’s penchant for spraying spit on the airwaves every Wednesday.)
