A spokesperson with D.C. Public Schools has confirmed that Joseph Alonzo Sharps, a 17-year-old senior at Spingarn High School, was shot and killed last night on the 1300 block of Holbrook Street NE. Sharps was a resident of the 1500 block of Queen Street NE, which is approximately three blocks away from where he was killed. The shooting occurred around 8:45 p.m. Another Spingarn student was also shot in the incident, but is recovering. Counselors have been dispatched to the high school today in order to offer support to students. No word yet on potential suspects in the slaying.
