Photo by thepostalservice.Bikes and bike lanes always generate strong opinions: the bike riders think drivers need to recognize that bikes deserve to be on the road, and some drivers think bikes need to be more careful, obey laws and give cars the right-of-way. It’s big news when a biker gets hit by a car, and things like ghost bikes are put up. But it appears like there might be a new tactic which some bikers are utilizing to protect themselves.
On the Orange Line headed towards New Carrollton at 11:00 a.m. on a weekday:
Guy to woman he doesn’t know, apropos of nothing: “You know, in Virginia there are some gals who are riding their bikes and they’ve armed themselves.”
Woman: “With guns?”
Random dude: “That’s right. These gals are riding around and shooting anyone who messes with them.”
Another guy: “Isn’t it hard to shoot and ride at the same time?”
First guy: “Oh no. It’s easy, just like taking out the trash.”
As always, Overheard in D.C. depends on you to send in what you hear. Make sure you give the context: who was talking, where they were, when it was, etc.
