D.C. Council Passes Long List Of Changes To Try To Achieve Zero Traffic Fatalities Goal
The Vision Zero Omnibus bill has been in the works for 16 months and aims to implement more than a dozen ideas to help reach D.C.’s goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2024.
Some District leaders want the city to do more to expand sidewalks, shut down lanes, or close whole streets so that pedestrians and cyclists can move about the city at a safe social distance from each other.
Many of D.C.’s quirkiest street intersections weren’t designed with humans in mind, according to Gabe Klein, former chief of the District Department of Transportation.
