If you are looking for music laced with sugar plums and roasting chestnuts, see my roundup of holiday concerts from last Friday. For music not for the holidays, here are some picks for the rest of the week.
Soprano Elizabeth Futral and tenor Stephen Costello. IN EXCELSIS:
>> Washington Bach Consort winds up its noontime cantata series for the calendar year on Tuesday (December 7, 12:10 p.m.). Have some free Bach during your lunchtime today, with Mein Gott, wie lang, ach lange (BWV 155) and sparkling solo playing on the organ from Jeremy Filsell, at the Church of the Epiphany (1317 G Street NW) downtown.
>> Okay, it’s a Christmas concert, but the Renaissance Christmas next weekend (December 10 to 12, various times), featuring the Folger Consort and the Tallis Scholars, is going to be worth it. These performances are at Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall.
>> Vocal Arts D.C. hosts a duo recital tonight (December 7, 7:30 p.m.), by tenor Stephen Costello and soprano Elizabeth Futral with pianist James Harp at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Many of the selections will be opera duets.
>> Pianist Gleb Ivanov and cellist Carter Brey perform a recital on Wednesday (December 8, 7:30 p.m.) in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.
>> The University of Maryland Symphony and Wind Orchestra join forces on Friday (December 10, 8 p.m.) for a program of music by Mozart, Mahler, and Jennifer Higdon, at the Clarice Smith Center.
