>> Your weekend metro track maintenance is affecting the Red, Blue, and Orange lines. Metro will be working to repair the track switches at the Forest Glen station, a recommendation from the National Transportation Safety Board. Additionally, Metro will be installing new rail cross ties and repair the “deteriorated platform” at the Rockville station. Work between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory will cause single tracking on the Orange and Blue line between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. And work related to the Wilson Bridge will cause single tracking between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street. Increase your travel times accordingly.
>> The Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services (DYRS) has been under increased scrutiny following a few reports exposing the agency’s inherent flaws. Jason Cherkis got his hands on an email the interim director, Robert Hildum, sent out to his staff December 2 questioning whether the agency should stop actively searching out juveniles who had run away, leaving their system. Of course, a few days after that email went out just such a youth was murdered. Hildum’s response to this? “I am deeply concerned about youth in the community who have absconded and I have made finding them a priority.”
>> There has been a rash of gunpoint robberies in upper NW that appear to be related. In the past week, there have been three robberies in the Embassy Row and Friendship Heights neighborhoods, areas that aren’t quite used to this kind of crime. A victim was shot after he refused to give the robbers his property at 43rd and Ingomar streets last Saturday night. Police are looking for two suspects, possibly a third, who they believe committed all of the robberies.
