By this point in December, most of the music to be heard will be accompanied by jingling bells: see our holiday concert roundup for those concerts. A few other options are available, though.
>> The Library of Congress has invited the string quintet Sybarite5 to perform the annual Stradivari Anniversary Concert on Saturday (December 18, 8 p.m.), for which the group is allowed to play on the great Italian instrument maker’s creations from the library’s collection. The group will play some older music, some contemporary music and some arrangements of songs by Radiohead — and it’s free!
>> Ukrainian pianist Stanislav Khristenko will play a recital at the Phillips Collection on Sunday (December 19, 4 p.m.), featuring selections from Liszt’s fiendishly difficult Transcendental Etudes. Tickets: $20 (includes cost of admission to the museum).
>> The Emerson Quartet’s concert on Sunday (December 19, 6 p.m.) will include music by Webern, Debussy, and Bartók, at the National Museum of Natural History. Tickets are pricey ($63), but it will be a good antidote for Christmas music overload.
