Yvette AlexanderThe cavalcade of various financial issues plaguing D.C. Councilmembers continues unabated: the Washington Times reports that the phones at Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander’s constituent services office on 2524 Pennsylvania Avenue SE were recently turned off because the office ran up $5,388.68 in unpaid phone bills to Verizon.
Alexander told the Times that the office didn’t have any outstanding financial obligations on the property and that the phone bills — which have “never been that exorbitant” — had been paid through January. But she “acknowledged having trouble in the past making rent payments” for the office, which is owned by former Councilmember H.R. Crawford. (Alexander described Crawford as “amenable to our situation.”) If the amount due is as Verizon claimed to the Times, then it would certainly eat up a big chunk of Alexander’s constituent services fund, which is capped at $80,000 per year.
Of course, it’d be wonderful if we could double-check all of this information, but Alexander hasn’t yet filed a financial report detailing this sort of financial information for January.
