Ray’s the Steaks at East River, of the few white-tablecloth dining establishments east of the Anacostia River, has closed its doors for good, a staffer to of Councilmember Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7) tells DCist.
That the chef and restaurateur Michael Landrum had closed his one location in the District of Columbia was rumored on Ward 7 email groups by people who passed by the restaurant and noticed it had been emptied out. Calls to the now-former restaurant at 3905 Dix Street NE went unanswered today. The restaurant’s door also featured a sign suggesting people visit Landrum’s other restaurants in Arlington and Silver Spring. DCist could not reach Landrum for comment. Landrum’s restaurant group had also just renewed its business license for the location in October, according to Department of Regulatory and Consumer Affairs spokesman Helder Gil.
Edward Fisher, Alexander’s chief of staff, tells DCist that Ray’s at the East River shopping plaza is indeed no more. He says that Alexander is working with a “well-known” restaurant that is potentially interested in moving into the space.
The shuttering of Ray’s the Steaks at East River is the second time in as many months that the portion of D.C. east of the Anacostia has lost a higher-end food option. Last month, Yes! Organic Market announced it was closing its location at 2323 Pennsylvania Avenue SE.
