>> Join J.D. Talasek tonight at the Smithsonian American Art Museum for Art and Science: A Constellation of Ideas, a discussion of the problems our planet faces and how art can heighten the awareness of such issues. >> Friday night brings the opening reception and awards ceremony for the winners of the 10th Annual International Photography Competition at the Fraser Gallery of Bethesda. 6 to 9 p.m. Free.

>> Friday also offers an opening reception at the Brentwood Arts Exchange for the new exhibition Resonant Forms, which features the work of Alonzo Davis, Martha Jackson-Jarvis and Frank Smith. 5 to 8 p.m. Head back over on Saturday for an artist talk with Davis, Jackson-Jarvis and Smith from 2 to 4 p.m.

>> Closing this Saturday is “Debt” at the Curator’s Office. An exhibition about artistic debt, specifically the indebtedness felt by Andy Moon Wilson to Simon Gouverneur after he was introduced to Gouverneur’s work in 2006. As a compulsive drawer, Wilson’s goal is to cause visceral reactions to his visually complicated, textile-like works. Can you handle it? Word is there’s also PBR and Prosecco in it for you. 5:30 to 7 p.m.
