Yesterday, we wrote a post about the deadline for candidates in the upcoming special election to turn in their nominating petitions, and why the number of signatures said candidates were able to get mattered or not. After all was said and done, the process didn’t do very much to thin the herd: of the 21 candidates who picked up petitions from the Board of Elections and Ethics, more than half remain in the running.
Democrats:
- Sekou Biddle
- Tom Brown
- Dorothy Douglas
- Calvin Gurley
- Arkan Haile
- Josh Lopez
- Vincent Orange
- Jacque Patterson
- Bryan Weaver
Statehood Green:
- Alan Page
Republican:
- Patrick Mara
Of course, this list can change, depending on whether each candidate’s nominating petitions hold up over the public challenge period, which begins on Saturday and runs for ten days. (Based on our estimates, though, it would take a massive revelation for most of the viable candidates to not maintain the necessary 3,000 signatures.) The BOEE will also announce its own “preliminary determinations of eligibility” on Saturday.
