It’s been less than a week since news broke that WJLA/TBD would be laying off several news staffers. That hasn’t stopped the media outlet from posting a job opening for a “Digital News Manager” via Craigslist, though.
First unearthed by FishbowlDC, here’s an ad for a job opening at the organization, listed this morning:
Successful candidate must have a strong journalistic background with at least three years experience in Internet news operations. The Digital News Manager will be responsible for developing on-line content, for developing strategies to engage visitors in our on-line community, and for fostering internal relationships designed to involve a large diverse newsroom team in web content production. The incumbent will manage 18+ person digital news team and supervise operations and content for two websites, TBD.com and wjla.com. This position will be responsible as the liaison to the sales and technical groups that support the two websites.
Acute judgment, strong writing skills and editing skills are required. Primarily an editorial position, however overall knowledge of the business of Internet news is also a must. Send resumes with a cover letter to: ABC7/TBD Attn: Human Resources 1100 Wilson Blvd. 6th Floor, Arlington, VA 22209 or email to the e-mail address above.
TBD editor Erik Wemple gave Fishbowl a quick “no comment on this”; when we contacted Wemple asking if TBD had posted job listings on Craigslist in the past and whether this was a new position under the recent restructuring or one which was involved in the layoffs, he similarly declined comment.
At least 12 TBD staffers reportedly lost their jobs last Wednesday.
