Good morning, Washington. After enduring rainy weekdays, we get a pretty nice weekend. Today and tomorrow, temperatures will surge into the high 50s and low 60s. We also get to spring forward this weekend, another sure sign the warm weather will soon be here to stay.

>> An assault in the Ivory Towers dorm on GW’s campus has been labeled a hate crime by MPD. Senior Ross Richardson was arrested after he kicked and punched another senior male while saying “you fucking fag.” The victim told the Hatchet that he was surprised the assault would happen to a “straight, white male.” The victim had significant head trauma, including bleeding in his brain.

>> Some pretty sweet SmarTrip improvements are on tap for July. Greater Greater Washington reports that the improvements will include the ability to load money online and set up a credit card to automatically reload once the SmarTrip’s balance gets low.

>> Beloved local institution Ben’s Chili Bowl has won an environmental stewardship award from the Greenlight Biofuels. Last year, Ben’s recycled nearly 4,000 gallons of oil waste into more than 2,600 gallons of biodiesel. So next time you stop by for a half smoke, think you’re supporting an environmentally friendly restaurant.

>> Here’s your weekend Metro closures: the Orange line stations East Falls Church and West Falls Church are closed, with shuttle buses operating. There’s also a lot of single tracking on the Red line: trains will share tracks between the Forest Glen and Glenmont stations, the Twinbrook and Grosvenor-Strathmore stations, as well as on the Orange/Blue line between the Federal Center SW and Eastern Market stations.
