>> Thursday’s Phillips After 5 will lend special attention to the ongoing relief efforts in Japan. Gallery talks will explore the influence of Japanese art and Japonisme on the work of Pierre Bonnard with Japanese-inspired food and drink help set the mood. Guests will be asked to partake in a text-to-give rally and 50 percent of bar and membership proceeds, as well as designated visitor donations, will be given to the American Red Cross. >> Anne Rowland documents the farmland around her home in rural Virginia. The resulting phonographs highlight the need humans have for farmland, along with our desire to protect it. View her photographs at Hemphill Fine Arts on Saturday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

>> In another 14th Street opening, the Adamson Gallery hosts Ouroboros, a collection of sculptures by William Newman. Newman, also inspired by nature and farms, creates sculptures of natural objects rendered in different sizes, using various materials. Saturday, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

>> In the 1960s, Tom Wesselmann was one of the key figures in the Pop Art Movement along with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichenstein, James Rosenquist and Robert Indiana. View a rare collection of his drawings at the Kreeger Museum in Draws, which includes over 60 pieces spanning his career. Opening Friday.

>> Stories that Breathe features African American figurative narrative artworks by nationally renowned contemporary artists Jules Arthur, Kesha Bruce, Mario Andres Robinson and Maya Freelon Asante. The third pop-up project by Morton Fine Art will open Friday at Morton Fine Art, 6 – 8 p.m.

>> On Saturday, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop will host its fourth annual Art & Go Seek, a fun scavenger hunt and fundraising event. Teams of two to six people will race around Capitol Hill searching for answers to questions about art, history, and notorious people and places in the neighborhood. The team with the most points will win a prize. 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. $25.

>> Pyramid Atlantic turns 30 this year. Help celebrate at a birthday party and open house this Saturday from 2 – 5 p.m. Enjoy artist demonstrations, studio tours, a members exhibit, live music, hands on arts activities, door prizes, art raffles, and even cake and ice cream.

Dance

>> VSA, the international organization on arts and disability, presents Diagnosis of a Faun. Choreographer Tamar Rogoff drew inspiration for this innovative dance/theater work from Nijinsky’s legendary dance, Afternoon of a Faun, and performer Gregg Mozgala’s experience with cerebral palsy. Mozgala’s magnetic faun moves from a mythical forest to the corridors of a modern hospital, changing the lives of all he meets with compelling movement and sly humor. Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. $10-15.
