Combine local politicians, an explosive issue and the 24-hour news cycle, and what do you get? Delicious, delicious soundbites, that’s what.
Hot on the heels of Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton — who’s recently told Congress to “go straight to hell,” accused the federal legislature of “killing” D.C. residents and has been perfecting her stink eye — is D.C. Councilmember Michael A. Brown (Ind.-At-Large), who shared his thoughts on the recent budget compromise and Congress with conservative radio station WMAL News:
“They can treat us as their guinea pigs, they can treat us as a petri dish, and as I called it, they treat us as a colony or a plantation,” said Michael A. Brown, DC council member at-large. Brown was one of six council members arrested along with Mayor Vincent Gray at a protest fueled by anger at the federal government’s budget deal.
“What’s next, we have to call them ‘massuh’?” said Brown.
The way this game of outraged one-upmanship is heading, who knows — maybe Brown, who was the first person arrested during Monday’s autonomyy protests, will go a bit more negative on future street-renaming proposals.
