It’s been a violent morning for pedestrians and cyclists in the District — early today, a cyclist was struck at the intersection of 4th and G Streets SW, while a pedestrian was hit at the intersection of 16th Street and Florida Avenue around 10:20 a.m. But the most disturbing incident occurred at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and I Street NW, where D.C. Fire and EMS says a person in a wheelchair was struck by a truck.

A witness to the accident emailed DCist with details — apparently the individual was “crushed” by the large delivery truck. “The truck’s back wheels stopped on top of the [individual], paused and then pulled forward,” relayed our witness, who requested that her name not be published. She heard the initial impact and “turned around just as the truck’s back wheels pushed forward over the person.”

Emergency medical personnel evaluated the individual on the scene and transported him to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police are still investigating what precisely happened in the collision.
