Photo by Martin Locraft.UPDATE: Everything is all clear now, and 7th Street is back open to traffic and pedestrians.
UPDATE: It’s a suspicious package. The following message has been passed along to tenants at 325 7th Street, which is currently on lockdown:
Please be advised that we have been advised we have been informed by MPD there has been a suspicious packaged detected at an adjacent building and orders have been mandated by MPD to “shelter in place” until further notice. No one will be allowed in the building or allowed to leave the building. The seventh street side of the building has been completely blocked off. We don’t have any further details at the moment but will update you as we receive them.
ORIGINAL POST: We’re getting word that police have closed off a portion of 7th Street NW, due to a police situation at 7th and E Streets NW. Authorities are currently not allowing pedestrians to enter the closed off section of 7th Street — though people are being allowed to leave shops and restuarants — but officers on the scene are tight-lipped about what’s going on. Buses are also detouring around the affected area. When we hear more details, we’ll be sure to pass them along.
