Here’s What’s Happening At D.C.’s Second Major ‘Open Streets’ Event On Georgia Avenue This Saturday
It’s the second time in three years that D.C. will fully close three miles of Georgia Avenue, though the pandemic did lead to other experiments with streets and sidewalks.
Plus, DDOT highlights its bridge inspection program, saying only five other bridges out of 200+ are rated “poor.” All in the process of being replaced.
Many of D.C.’s quirkiest street intersections weren’t designed with humans in mind, according to Gabe Klein, former chief of the District Department of Transportation.
Mayor Muriel Bowser and DDOT released an action plan today to bring the Swedish concept to D.C. and reach zero deaths or serious injuries to users of the city’s transportation systems.
This includes a barrier to deter mid-block crossings.
