Lost Society is set to open at 14th and U on July 1.

Lost Society, a new U Street steakhouse, is anything but lost. Located in the heart of the neighborhood’s nocturnal playground — on the northeast corner of 14th and U Street — this newest kid on the block will open July 1 and is bound to attract more than your avid carnivore.

Calling itself a “boutique” steakhouse, Lost Society strives to simmer the downtown ambiance of power lunches and dinners known in the steakhouse scene. According to primary owners David Karim and Richard Vassey (of Policy and Josephine), they want their new restaurant to stand out among its small-plate neighbors, yet mesh with the area’s more vibrant and chill atmosphere. That means a chic two-floor lounge filled with Victorian-inspired decor of chandeliers and plush couches and chairs, as well as a cream-themed top floor that houses the DJ booth.

With a summer opening, Lost Society’s main anchor is most likely its spacious rooftop deck, which overlooks the intersection the restaurant has taken over. The patio also has its own bar where a refreshing summer cocktail can be obtained. The bar menu boasts a lengthy list of modern and classic cocktails so one (or two or three) of these might enhance the summer al fresco experience.

The overall dinner menu is straightforward for a steakhouse. Created by Chef Joseph Evans, whose recent stint was executive chef of D.C.’s Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse, Lost Society highlights seven types of steaks. Other entrees include surf and turf, such as the stuffed lobster and braised short ribs. The appetizers are also meat and seafood, such as the braised pork belly and oysters. For “extras” (or if one prefers a lighter load), there are the steakhouse basics of roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus and mac ‘n’ cheese. The rest of the bar menu is also simple, with a short wine list showcasing American and Italian wine. The beer list is similarly slim, offering mostly macro-brew standards.

Lost Society’s debut this Friday is a soft opening, but with such a prime location, there’s likely more to come in the coming weeks.
