Photo by scott*eric. The Wall Street Journal has news which will certainly come as no surprise — Borders bookstore has failed in their attempts to find a buyer and will liquidate all of its stores nationwide. The two Borders stores inside the District — at 1801 K Street NW and 5333 Wisconsin Avenue NW — closed in February after the company declared bankruptcy. The rest of the company’s still standing branches in Maryland, Virginia and at National Airport will close, with inventory clearance sales possibly starting as soon as Friday. Normally, we’d tell you that if you’re in the market for some books, your closest Borders is probably a good place to find a deal — but, honestly, your local, independent bookstore could probably use the business a little bit more than a company which won’t exist come September.
